What Will Rational Yogi Produce?
Instructing Yogic Philosophy for Zenith Yoga in Hanoi, Vietnam
I have grand ambitions for Rational Yogi. No doubt a substantial part of the initial months of this project will be experimenting with content topics and media.
I would like to:
Share excerpts from traditional/pre-modern texts with some analysis and commentary. This analysis and commentary will explore:
What premodern yogic authors may have been attempting to communicate to the use of certain metaphors.
what premodern yogic authors may have been attempting to communicate to the use of certain metaphors.
How to determine which bits of pre-modern yoga texts were intended to be interpreted metaphorically and which were intended to be interpreted literally.
The evolution, reinterpretation, and misapplication of certain metaphors throughout the centuries.
The possibility in value of believing in certain yogic metaphysical claims Without concern for their scientific accuracy or unfalsifiability.
The rampant disagreement amongst pre-modern yoga philosophers over the particulars of practice description, taxonomy, number, safety, benefits, etc. in order to show the lack of unified yoga metaphysical vision, in order to show that there is no consensus no one “correct” traditional interpretation.
Share examples of and guidance for pre-modern yoga practice as described in early texts through pre-recorded videos and online classes. These practices mostly involved breath retention, meditation, and some select physical postures held statically for long periods of time.
Engage in interviews and discussions with other yoga philosophy enthusiast and practitioners about modern interpretations and applications of free modern yoga philosophy.
These will be shared through various media including:
Live in-person and online classes
Pre-recorded classes and video essays on YouTube, TikTok, etc.
Pre-recorded interviews, discussions, and audio-essays in Podcast-form
